Brainminer Beliefs

·       Leaders are like teachers; we remember those who inspired us to achieve what we once thought impossible, as well as those who stifled our confidence. Recognizing potential is key to effective leadership.

·       The qualities of a High Performing Team align closely with those of a Mentally Positive Team. It's crucial to discuss them together; ignoring this connection is like designing a powerful engine without considering how to fuel it.

·       Kindness should be our guiding principle. True kindness involves doing what’s right and respectful, even when it requires difficult conversations that prioritize honesty over comfort.

·       Words have power; they can heal or harm, and their impact can last long after they’re spoken.

·       Many organizations struggle to facilitate honest conversations in real-time. Instead of relying solely on performance management systems, a shift towards focused coaching on difficult conversations and timely truths is essential. Too often, the administrative aspects overshadow the critical skills needed for effective communication.

·       We must give equal importance to mental health as we do to physical health. Psychotherapy should be a valued presence in the workplace—just as we prioritize physical fitness, we should also nurture our mental well-being.

·       Everyone has biases. Exceptional leadership begins with a deep self-awareness of how our brains function, why they behave that way, and how these factors manifest in our work.

·       An over-reliance on employee engagement surveys can stifle honest performance discussions. Leaders may hesitate to deliver necessary feedback for fear of impacting their engagement scores.

·       People with full lives, not robots, come to work. Great leaders recognize and appreciate the holistic individuals in their teams.

·       Evaluating intellectual and technical capabilities is only part of the equation. A comprehensive understanding of a person’s emotional makeup is equally important, provided we approach this assessment with open minds and awareness of our biases.

·       Hierarchical structures can hinder innovation and creativity.

·       Organizations that neglect their core purpose often become politically charged environments.

·       I have a special affinity for people who love dogs.

·       I promise to be honest with you, providing the feedback you need to hear, not just what you want to hear. Together, we can work towards aligning those two perspectives.
